Augmentative and Alternative Communication device
Communication is a fundamental human right, yet many children with complex communication needs are unable to express their thoughts, feelings, choices, and needs without specialized support. Through Step Together's Assistive Communication Program, we are working to ensure that every student who requires Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) has access to the tools they need to communicate independently and participate fully in school, therapy, family life, and their community. The program provides students with dedicated iPads equipped with individualized AAC software and communication systems tailored to their unique needs. These devices enable students to express wants and needs, build relationships, participate in learning activities, make choices, and develop greater independence and self-advocacy. Many of the families we support are unable to afford the cost of a dedicated AAC device and software. As a result, students who could greatly benefit from these tools often remain without access to a reliable means of communication. With your support, we can provide life-changing communication devices to students who need them most, while also helping families and educators build the skills necessary to support AAC use across home, school, and therapy environments. Every contribution helps bring us closer to a future where every student has the opportunity to be heard, understood, and included. Together, we can ensure that every voice has a way to be heard.
